A Not-so-Islamic Utopia

Abstract Despite the existence of a variegated literary tradition and almost complete absence field research on subject, notion utopia in Muslim world is generally associated with an ‘Islamic utopia’ that aims to reinstate societal model early Muslims. Based ethnographic among young Italian-Bangladeshis, this article suggests ‘retro-utopia’ religious repertoires more do not represent only resources used by people imagine social change. The interlocutors put forth variety images ideal society ultimately structured according realism-messianism polarity. youth use these endeavor make sense their different positionalities biographical trajectories, power relations experienced themselves groups which they are affiliated.
